Perfect Weekend in NYC

I took the train up to visit Daughterlypoo last weekend.

We spent a morning in Central Park.

Jose De Creeft's Alice In Wonderland sculptures is probably my most favorite of all of the Central Park sculptures.

Another favorite spot in the park is the cast iron Bow Bridge:

After frolicking in the park we wandered over to the East Village to check out all of the vintage shops.

After all of the work I put in for the Occoquan craft show (click here for prior post), this was the perfect weekend ~ relaxing and kicking around town with the best daughter in the world!

Thank you, Mood

I'm a huge fan of "Project Runway" and the spin-off series, "Under the Gunn."  Are you?  Now that Daughterlypoo lives in NYC, and within walking distance from the Garment District, I had a chance to visit Mood.

If you watch the show, you know that the designers shop for their fabrics at Mood.  It's fabric heaven!

Aisles upon aisles of fabric bolts.

Beautiful rainbows of colors.

Swatch, Mood's mascot, paused a moment to say hello.

Very cool place!  I'm so happy I had the opportunity to experience it in person.

Thank you, Mood!  As I type this, I'm doing my best to sound like Tim Gunn.  (That's the Empire State Building behind/above us.)

Quiet Morning in Central Park

I spent last weekend in NYC visiting Daughterlypoo and Daniel.  As always, we had a wonderful time together!  On Sunday morning we walked through part of Central Park...

First we crossed through Columbus Circle ~ the statuary is spectacular!

We entered the Park near Umpire Rock, an enormous, exposed bedrock, with amazing views of the towering city.

Mid-Park, along 5th Avenue is a distinguished grove of Elm trees:

There are over 8,000 benches throughout the park, but these are my favorite:

Even prettier with Daughterlypoo posing.

We made our way toward Bethesda Terrace to see the intricate sandstone carvings...

...And the crown jewel of the Terrace, the Angel of the Waters statue.  In 1873, sculptor Emma Stebbins was the first woman to receive a public art commission in NYC.  The Angel carries a lily in her left hand, and is said to reference the Pool of Bethesda and celebrate New York's first aqueduct.

There's an overwhelming number of things to see and do in Central Park.  We walked and explored for about two hours and barely scratched the surface!

We exited the Park through the Grand Army Plaza where the magnificent gold leaf statue of General Sherman stands.

On my next visit to NYC I think I need to book a guided tour of Central Park so that I can be sure to learn even more about its history.  It's so fascinating and beautiful!

Silver Wedding Anniversary

Today we've been married 25 years!

Lucky then...

Lucky today...

I've probably said it a million times.  I am a very lucky lady!

Insulated Flat Iron Travel Cases Product ReLaunch

Did I tell you that our daughter and her husband moved to NYC?  It's been their dream to live in the Big Apple and her recent job promotion made it possible!  Captain Project and I hopped on the train for a visit last weekend.

Guess what was in my vintage suitcase!  (Click here for the prior blog post on how I decorated it.)  My newly designed Retro Revival Travel Flat Iron Case, "Grab the Cab."

The new design is roomier and compartmentalized, yet still compact enough to easily fit inside even the smallest of suitcases and travel bags.  For this first-run of the new design (available in my Etsy shop), I used bright, fun travel motif fabrics.

"London Calling"

"Taxi"

"World Traveler"

The sleek design has two compartments ~ one side for the flat iron and the other for the cord.

I don't know about you, but I am seriously attached to my flat iron and it's necessary to take it along on trips, but waiting around for it to cool off before packing it is such a pain!  With my new case there's no need to wait ~ I simply unplug it and slip it into this heat resistant (up to 400 F/204 C) case and I have no worries about damaging the contents of my suitcase.

"Pack Your Bags"

It's the perfect travel accessory for the gal who considers her flat iron, straightener, crimper, or curling iron an essential part of her beauty routine.  Ideal for travel, the gym, your bathroom cabinet, school, anywhere!
