Where I Create

Since I began this blog I've been wanting to show you my creative space but it's usually an embarassing mess.

Don't believe me?  I snapped this picture as proof, the day before my last big Retro Revival show:

I took some time yesterday to reorganize and clean it (ugh ~ where's my housekeeper?!) to a point where I can share my humble little space with you (it's only 8'x12').

A quick tour, starting with the walls...

I love the greenish-yellowish color, almost chartreuse really.  I used part of my collection of vintage and antique plates and saucers as a "border" all around the room.

For Mother's Day a few years back, Captain Project gave me the beautiful desk and hutch - it's pretty big although you probably can't tell for all the stuff piled on it!

I've placed all sorts of stuff on top of the hutch too, including this handpainted sign:

(I picked it up at a craft fair when my freckle-faced daughter was a toddler.)

My chair is an old thrift shop find that I painted and covered the seat with some scrap fabric.

I picked up this little handcrafted cabinet years ago to display my quilts and it now houses many of my shower cap supplies, scrap fabric, patterns and ribbon.

This book shelf is one of my all time favorite pieces of furniture in our home.  I found it at an upscale furnishings store in Atlanta; it was sitting in the very back of the store, a bit banged up and painted a Pepto Bismol pink!  I bought it for next to nothing, lugged it home and promptly painted it black and changed out the pulls on the two drawers.  For many years it sat in our formal living room in Atlanta but since moving here to Florida it has a new life as my primary fabric storager.

Captain Project reconfigured the shelving in my closet for me.  More fabric and supplies are packed in here.

My chandelier.  Swoon!  I wish I had a chandelier in every room in our home!

I may paint it another color.  Robin's egg blue is tempting; what do you think?

I've struggled with what to do about the windows.  Because of our big wrap-around porch and its roof, this room doesn't get much light so we've only installed shutters on the bottoms of the front two windows.

I'm considering something sheer for the tops, just to dress them a bit.  Maybe I can craft something from my vintage, hand-crocheted doilies?

I'd love your help.  Please leave me a comment with your suggestions ~ I'd really appreciate it!

Your room is so cozy and colorful! I love it! I think a simple valance in colors that coordinate with your space would be super fun! You could layer a sheer under it for a bit more privacy.

I would definitely do a crochet curtain just for interest! That would be great! And the light fixture looks amazing as it is....your platters are stunning and your fabric collection, impressive! How I would squeal with delight in a room like that!
So glad you shared it.

Hmmm- The window treatments... I am no decorator, but I think sheer curtains would dress it up. When you put them up - please share photo's with us!

Hello Cindy,
Your creative space looks amazing; I love the vintage plates on the wall. I think that is a wonderful idea to paint your chandelier robin’s egg blue. The blue will give a brilliantl pop of color to the center of the room.
Have a creative day!

Its super cute!!!! I love all the colors and I wish that I had a little more space for all of my crafts, right now it is all spilling out of a bag in my living room. I would get some storage boxes from target or even dollar general to help heep things more organized. :)

looks terrific! What a great idea to dress up the window by making toppers out of the crocheted doilies. That would look beautiful. You really have some great finds there; my favorite is the "A child without freckles is like a night without stars"
