My Son's Been Deployed to Afghanistan

My little soldier boy (on the right at age 4) deployed to Afghanistan last week.

Obviously, he's a grown man now.  A wonderful, brave, young man.

His new bride, our sweet daughter-in-law, Yujin, cooked him one of her family-famous Korean feasts before he left on his nine-month tour.

The sacrifices Davey and Yujin are making, well, I think they're incredible.  The sacrifices all of our military men and women and their families make are monumental.

I'm not going to worry.  I'm not going to worry.  I. am. not. going. to. worry!  Click here for my previous post about worry vs. wonder.

Today I chose to wonder.  I hope you have a wonderous day too!

  3. I pray courage and protection for your son! My son is becoming a state tropper in Washington state and these men are often shot at, too. Not the same as being a soldier but enough to make me wonder! ♥

  5. I was an Army wife, but it has been many years since I have had to worry about someone I love serving in the military. May God bless you, your son and your family during your son's journey and selfless service.

  6. I am adding your Ben (mine is in the USAF) to my prayer list! I'm so grateful to all the men and women, I didn't know how patriotic I was until my son enlisted. Don't worry, Mom; pray instead of ruminate and the Lord will give you peace that passes all understanding. Meanwhile, maybe you can have your daughter in law teach you to make bulgogi and mandu!

  19. Oh Cindy, prayers go out for the safety of your son. It will be a bit difficult as newlyweds to be apart. I remember when I had 5 young children and my hubby was deployed for Desert Storm. They thought he could be gone for up to 3 years. It was a hard thing, but our hearts grew fonder. Luckily he returned home after 5 months.
    Hugs,
    Jann

  22. My father is an retired Army Sargent. I thank God everyday he came home from Vietnam. If he had not there would have been no ME!
Your son is doing our country a wonderful service. I know it will be hard for you not to worry. (I am a terrible worry-wart) But just know how much we all appreciate his duty. And you obviously raised your son to be proud of his nation.
Hats off to you and your family! :)
