Daughterly Love in the City of Brotherly Love

We traveled to Philadelphia last weekend to visit our daughter Natalie

and son-in-law Daniel.

They're living in Center City, in a Bible factory built in 1803 that's been converted into spacious apartments.

The ground floor of the building is a fabric museum.  I think it was meant to be that they chose to live here ~ doilies painted on the glass!

The famous Reading Terminal Market is just around the corner from where they live.

The place is full of fresh meats, cheeses, veggies and fish ~ just about every conceivable food stuff!

Across town is another famous market, the South 9th Street Curb Market, a community market full of speciality ethnic food vendors.

The city is dotted with hundreds of historical landmarks, including the State's oldest hospital, co-founded by Ben Franklin.

It's also a real restaurant town and thankfully, we ate some scrumptious meals, otherwise we would've died from the miles and miles of walking we did!

When in Rome...

This was the french toast I ordered for breakfast one morning.  French toast stuffed with cream cheese and apples.  Uh muh guh!

My favorite thing about Philly?  The incredible architecture.  The jewel of the city is City Hall.

A 37' statue of William Penn stands atop the massive structure.

Everywhere you turn you run into beautiful buildings

With stunning detail.

I can't wait to go back and spend time with two of our favorite people!

  1. Why does it always take a visitor to show you what's on your doorstep.

I live twenty miles from Philly and rarely get down there.

It's always good to view something with a fresh eye and you did that.

Will now take the time to visit a few things.

  3. Thanks for sharing your day....that was a fun tour...and I really have to comment on the doily painted windows! How inspirational....if I owned a brick and mortar shop/gallery.....that is what I would soooooooo do! I love that. What a charming building. The apartment must be so nice. Give us a tour of that sometime.

Have a great day, Cindy! And thanks for your visits.

  10. I moved to Philadelphia in my early 20's. (I was a wanderer for a short period of my life) I loved it there! The history there is fabulous!
I lived in South Philly on 9th & Watkins !(Rocky Balboa land - Yo Adrian!) I frequented the curb market very often!
Please tell me you had Philly Birch Beer while you were there!!!
    :)
