Sheets Happen {Vintage Sheets & Pillowcases}

Some of my favorite aprons are the ones I made by upcycling vintage bedsheets and pillow cases.

Are you thinking "Eew...vintage sheets?!"?  Please don't fret, I'm a very discerning buyer and after purchasing, carefully and thoroughly launder them so that they're bright, clean and fresh before I begin cutting!

I rescue all sorts of vintage linens from flea markets, antique and thrift shops, and estate sales.   My newest source is Meegs from Pieces of Meegs on Etsy!

This short stack is a sampling of what Meegs has found for me:

Gorgeous, right?!  And when I say, "Found for me," I mean it!  Meegs is like my own personal shopper.  She Etsy convos me, asking me what I need and then goes out and finds it!  I LOVE her!  Go, now, and check out her shop!

Using this little vintage birdy piece from Meegs, I arranged some coordinating fabrics...

...to create this:

From my "Meegs stash" I also sewed these...

Have you used vintage sheets or pillowcases to create something?  Do tell and you'll be entered to win this month's blog giveaway:

I'll randomly draw a winner on June 30th ~ good luck!

  2. Hi Cindy!
What a beautiful thing, you really are an artist, congratulations!
I would never think to use pillowcases and sheets for making bags, it could only be thought as an artist.
Congratulations once again and Happy Valentine's Day, here in Brasil is today!
    hugs

  4. Gorgeous sheets make gorgeous aprons! Shame we don't seem to have such pretty bedlinen these days - I remember sleeping between candy-stripes.

  5. These are beautiful. Working with vintage linens is my weakness. They iron and play so nicely. Something about rescuing them that speaks to my heart....smiles...Renee

  6. No way would I think "EW" about vintage sheets any more than I would think "EW" about vintage hankies! That is , if I don't think TOO hard!! :)

I love what you did with these, Cindy. And your own personal shopper? Too fun! I found 2 vintage sheets recently. I might use one of them as a back drop for my future antique booth and use the other one for making a banner...

    Have a great day! ♥

  8. Your aprons are so vintage, so darling. Wish I had saved all those sheets, and I never find them at GW. I must not be a good GW shopper, went there last week and all I came out with was runny eyes and sneezing.

  9. I just love all the things you have made. You really inspire me. I am
just starting to collect sheets. but I am very picky and only using the top sheet. So far the ones I have bought are from a GREAT source. So I know where they come from.

  10. I love the aprons you've made, especially the bluebird apron. So cute!

I am a huge fan of vintage sheets & pillowcases, both to use on my bed, and to craft with. I usually make throw pillows from embroidered pillowcases that are too stained to use on my bed.

  11. These are so gorgeous! And this time I didn't think of it too ;) Only thing I've made lately from sheets were Rit dyed green togas for our ACC Basketball Tournament St. Patrick's Day Toga Party.

  14. They're all so pretty, Cindy! I bet those old sheets are so soft and absorbant. What a perfect project to display their beauty and functional quality and USE them. I hate to think of all the old sheets I've seen at estate sales that may have ended up in a landfill. I hope they were donated if not sold.

  15. I have most definitely repurposed a vintage sheets AND pillowcases! There is nothing more self-gratifying then using pure creativity when using an old vintage tablecloth, sheet, towel or pillowcase!
    I love your aprons!

  17. Loving the clever bluebird apron - So many great apron memories of a 1960's childhood - my sister and I tying two on - front and back - and swirling them around as we danced to daddy playing his boogie-woogie and swing music on the piano . . . smiling now.
    Joy!
