Over these love birds!

 

 

I found this lovely Westmoreland candy dish while out thrifting recently.

 

 

Picked it up for a (love) song because of a little chip in one of the tail feathers.  Hardly noticeable!

 

 

Westmoreland manufactured these pretty milk glass dishes from the 1920s through the 1950s.

 

 

They nest perfectly among my other jadeite and milk glass goodies.

 

 

Lovey dove(y) indeed!

Spring Decorating Vignettes

 

I don't think I've ever been so happy that Spring is finally here!  Winter really walloped us time and again, and, get this!  Dropped another couple inches of snow on us last week!  In April.  Crazy.

 

 

Dare I say she's finished?  The past several days have been quite warm, the birds are returning to the neighborhood, and the trees are finally beginning to bud ~ yay!

 

To celebrate Spring's arrival I dug out a few pieces to display throughout our home.  A few decoupaged eggs from Michael's nestle next to my antique, wooden rabbit:

 

 

Here on a side table I've placed a fuzzy bunny (a gift from my BFF), one of my a vintage, jadeite vases, and the gorgeous, antique glass and brass bowl my daughter picked up for me while traveling in Japan last year.

 

 

The small, pink platter is a vintage piece I picked up years ago while in traveling in southern California.

 

 

My favorite vignettes are the ones like these ~ made from special pieces from special people and places!

Milk Glass & Jadite Display

In our new place we have this rather large cutout in the wall above the fireplace.

The fireplace is two-sided and opens to both the dining/living room and into the kitchen.

Since I don't have any big things to fill the space I decided to display some white and Jadite milk glass in it.

These are the pieces I normally have stashed away in cabinets and that we don't use every day.

Though not really milk glass, this is my favorite vase:

So from practically every angle of the first floor I can see my collection.  It makes me happy.

Pot Mitts! {New Retro Revival Product}

For my show this weekend (The Great American Pie Festival), I designed pot holder/oven mitts.  Flat and round, they work as pot holders:



And with a pocket they also work as oven mitts:



I've sewn 50 sets that match or coordinate with my Retro Revival aprons.  In fact, I made them from apron fabric scraps and bias tape pieces.

They remind me of a towering stack of pancakes!



Thinking I may display them in a stock pot...



...Or on a dessert pedestal (you know how I love jadite!):



Though I forgot to snap a picture, I also sewed a loop on the backsides for hanging.  Fingers crossed they sell well!

Going Green With Jadite

Oooh, how I love jadite!  Something about its color makes me happy.  It's kind of opaque and milky.  It's melon-y, celadon-y and sage-y.  Kind of like the colors of the ocean.  I think it's so pretty ~ is that why it's so hard to describe?!  Hahahaha!

After years of oogling Martha's collection:

...I've picked up a few pieces for our cupboards:

Like many jadite collectors, I've snagged most of my pieces from thrift and antique stores.

(These are all vinage except the one in front - a coffe container from Home Goods)

My favorite dish is this vintage compote:

The great thing about collecting jadite is that it's so abundant and much of it is realitively inexpensive.  Jadite was originally manufactured from the 1930's until the early 1970's for restaurants and retail.  It was wildly popular because of its durability, low production cost and cheap retail price (often given away promotionally).

The McKee Glass Company was the first to produce jadite in the US but Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation was the largest producer of jadite.  In 1942, they introduced their line of Fire-King pressed glass dinner and kitchenware that was oven safe and stain resistant.   Produced in a variety of colors including white and peach, jadite was their most popular color and remains the most popular for collectors.
