As you probably already know, I love pie. Love to eat them and bake them, and have posted about it quite a few times. But, I haven't made a homemade crust in years ~ probably 25+.
Since meeting Beth Howard, you know, the sweet lady I blogged about here, I've been thinking I should really give the pie crust thing another chance. So in preparation of Thanksgiving, I tried a practice pie using Beth's recipe.
(If you look closely, you'll see the yellow bits of butter that Beth says are so important to flakiness.)
I carefully followed Beth's directions about not overworking the dough.
It's really flaky.
And delicious.
As of this morning, only one piece remains so I think it was definitely a success! I finally feel like I'm a genuine pie baker now. No more Pillsbury for me.
The pooch is patiently waiting for a stragler to jump out of the pie dish. Lol! Too cute! :)

No recipe!? Making pie crust is one of those things I wish I had stuck around to learn how to make from my green bean Grandma...that and homemade bread.
ReplyDeleteIt looks perfect and yummy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving.
I need to make my first apple pie this Thursday. Can I make it ahead of time, or do I need to make it fresh Thursday morning?
ReplyDeleteOh man, I'd like to taste this. It's an art to be a 'good' baker. Congrats,
