I love celebrating life's positive moments. Whether the festivities are subdued or lavish, a fortunate spent or not, I believe that it is always important to revel in the delight of our special days. May 20th is one such occasion that I embrace with glee -- 21 years ago Paul and I married!
(Gotta love the '80s! My dress had ginormous puffy sleeves!)
Paul is likeable, easy going, very smart, clever, very funny, often goofy, so handsome, hard working and (almost always) very easy to love.
I saved this quote by Anne Morrow Lindbergh (pioneering American aviator, author and married to Charles Lindbergh) I found in a magazine several months ago:
"When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb."
She's right. Paul and I have 21 years of marital ebbs and flows and I'm so happy that I've rode the waves reasonably, and often expertly, well. Sure, there were delieriously happy days in the beginning and wonderful surprises throughout the years. And sprinkled in from time to time were devasting lows and incredible challenges. I recognize that I am happier now than I've ever been, feeling a renewed love for my husband and a sense of wonder and anticipation for what the next 21 years will bring. For so many reasons, but especially because of Paul, I am a very luck lady!
Now, with a wink, Retro Revival offers this witty apron featuring images of the "perfect huband." Think he doesn't exist? Well here he is, doing the dishes, cleaning the house, paying the bills, changing the diapers:
And if you happen to know of a single lady with a sense of humor, I offer this little number featuring kitschy, 1950's "wisdom" on how to snag a husband! The fabric really is hilarious with advice such as, "Show him that you love housework," "Cook special dishes for him," and "Don't argue -- he is always right!"
This "Blushing Bride" apron makes the perfect bridal shower gift:
