Twyla Turns 6

Our sweet, ornery, funny Beagle Twyla turned six over the weekend.

And because I began blogging after her arrival I thought I'd share a couple of pictures you've never seen...

The day we met her she was one week old (and my hair was really short!).

And the day we brought her home to live with us:

Fast forward to her birthday party...

Mmmm, good stuff!

What?!  I have to wait till my next birthday to get the good, wet, stinky stuff?!

She makes us laugh.  Every day.  Best dog ever!

On Turning 50

This Saturday I turn 50.  Yay!

Overall, I live a beautiful life with the world's best husband (Captain Project to you) and our Beagle Twyla.

I have wonderful children and a very delightful daughter- and son-in-law.

I have other dear family and friends that brighten my life too.

And I have YOU!  I am so lucky to have so many sweet friends out in Blogville.

Retro Revival brings me great happiness and continues to grow.

I'm almost totally gray (so greatful for Aveda!), have the beginnings of some serious wrinkles, and my back gives me fits sometimes.  But I'm a little less foolish (most days!) and more importantly, I am surrounded by light and recognize all of the joy in my life.

I love my life!  I'm not bragging, rather just counting a few of my blessings out loud.

When I dig in to another piece of my birthday cake (pound cake ~ my fave), I won't think about how fattening it is, but will instead think of how lucky I am that my beautiful daughter baked it for me, and came down from Philadelphia to hand deliver it to me!

Wishing you all a happy day!

I'm 48!

Tomorrow's my 48th birthday ~ woo hoo!

I seem to have a few more lines on my face, my back's been giving me fits this last year, and gravity is beginning to take its toll, but overall, I feel good.
If I had a higher threshold for pain and if my bank account were bulging, would I have plastic surgery?

Nope!

I hate seeing people who are chronilogically of a certain age but who look decades younger ~ it's weird!

And creepy, right?!

Mark Twain said, "Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been."  I agree.  I smile a lot!

I suppose I am a hypocrite because I'm creeped-out by plastic surgery yet I am way to vain to (intentionally) allow my gray to show.  I am not brave enough to rock it like Emmylou Harris.

I've been dying my gray hair for years ~ so many that honestly, I've lost count.

For many years I had it dyed at the salon but this last year I've been doing it myself (trying to economize).  Fortunately, my homemade dye jobs last just as long as the salon variety, which for my fast-growing hair is never long enough.  Instead of dying it every five weeks or so, I usually put it off for at least seven weeks ~ yes, I'm super lazy when it comes to my hair!

As I was getting dressed this morning I noticed just one too many gray hairs glistening back at my reflection!

Eeek!

Clearly, it's time to dye my hair.  But I don't wanna!  So instead, I reached for this little "miracle:"

When I bought it, I had reservations.  I had visions of Ron Popeil; remember the men's hair in a spray paint can?!

But this really works!  You just hold it under the tap to wet it and then:

It's a super quick way to cover the grays, doesn't rub off or melt in the Florida heat and lasts until I wash it out in the shower:

(See how well it covered my grays at the side of my hair line?  Took the pix before moving to the top, obviously.)

The older I get, especially over these past two years or so, I've found a whole new sense of contentment and serenity.  Although life's not perfect, I am having the time of my life and doing what I love every day ~ running Retro Revival.

I don't fear getting older.  I'm living life.  I'm loving my life.  I'm smiling.

But my gray hair?  It's gotta go!  Where's that Clairol?!

Please share some comment love here so you're entered to win this month's blog giveaway (drawing is 5/31).

It's My (Blog) Birthday!

Tomorrow is my first blog birthday - woo hoo!  This is my 84th post - who knew I had so much to say?  Ha!

 to view my very first post.}

It's been a wonderful year for me in Blogville, and I'm planning on many more.  I've really enjoyed sharing my experiences, and even more so, thoroughly revel in reading your comments!  I'm very appreciative of all of my followers (134 of you!), whether you've visited just once, stop by occassionally or you fanatically follow!  Everyone's been incredibly kind, encouraging and fun!  A special shout out to my two most prolific "commentors," Becky from Sew In Stitches and Cindy from Rick-Rack and Gingham - you gals are fantastic!

So, what should I do to celebrate my blog birthday?  Ah, I'll do a very special, apron giveaway!

I designed this apron using a vintage, off white tablecloth with purple edging (bottom layer) and a vintage, hand-crocheted tablecloth as the top layer.  The pictures really don't do this creation justice - it's really lovely!

To win this luveryly apron, leave me a comment on this blog entry, sharing what you've enjoyed about my blog (a specific blog entry, topic or even something you'd like me to write about in a future blog).  And please, spread the word!  Tell all of your friends and family that I'm giving away an apron!  On December 31st, I'll randomly draw a winner.  Good luck!

Happy Birthday to My Wonderful Son!

Happy birthday, Davey!  You are wonderful, so brave, loved beyond words and missed!
Jeez, have 28 years REALLY flown by?!

David's serving in the Army infantry right now in Iraq.  He's one of the 50,000 troops still there and we're hoping and praying he'll remain safe and return home near the end of the year!

(Davey receiving a promotion in Iraq- he's to the right of the flag)

I blogged last year about this, but as a reminder...if you’re interested in helping boost the morale of our soldiers there are quite a few organizations to help you, including Give2theTroops, OperationShoeBox and MilitaryCarePackages.

Wondering what to include in a care package? Consider packing a care box with these items (good for male or female soldiers serving in the Middle East):

Flea collars (like you'd buy for a large dog)
Wipes (like diaper wipes)
Deodorant/anti-perspirant
Foot powder
Multi vitamins
Body lotion
Ziploc bags
Prepaid international calling cards
Inflatable pillows
Canned air
Playing cards
DVDs
Newspapers & magazines
Slim Jims
Dried fruit
Hard candy
Sunflower seeds
Breath mints
Gum

Keep safe, Davey, and we'll be seeing you soon!

Remember to comment on this blog or any of my September posts so that you'll be entered to win this month's giveaway:
