Remember me mentioning the great score I made at the flea ~ this vintage shopping cart for $10?
Well, I thought she looked a little naked so I dressed her up a bit with a liner made from a vintage, twin-sized bed sheet.
Because I couldn't find a tutorial online, I've put one together here in case you'd like to make one...
1. Measure your cart ~ the front and back, sides and bottom and cut your fabric, adding a 1/2" for seams.
2. Cut another piece of your fabric for a pocket (to hold your wallet, keys and phone), pin and sew to what will be the back inside of your liner:
3. With right sides together, pin the front and back panels and the side panels to the bottom panel and sew.
4. Match up the four sides, pin and stitch together.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 again for your liner (you can use a different fabric but I chose to use the same for both).
6. With right sides together, insert your one liner into the other and place them both into your cart, folding over the tops a bit to prevent them from falling down into your cart.
7. Cut and sew six ties, 2"x24" and fold them in half, open ends facing down.
8. Place your ties between the two liners, pin in place and sew along the top and leaving a 3" opening.
9. Turn your liners right side out, stitch closed your 3" opening, place back into your cart and tie your bows.
10. Step back and admire your work. Easy and pretty fast.
Hmmmmm. Needs a little something ~ lace, pom poms?
Yep, pom poms!
A simple face lift for this vintage beauty!
I've already taken her for a spin!
If you end up making a cart liner yourself, I'd sure love to hear about it! I'm linking up today with Heather at The Vintage Sheet Blog ~ she has lots of other ideas for upcycling your stash of vintage sheets.

Beautiful Cart! I will have to treasure hunt, and see if I can find a vintage cart to makeover. Love It! Thanks for sharing your tutorial, I am pinning it for later reference. Now, you have total freedom to collect more vintage goodies {fill it up}. Is another trip to webster in your future? ;o)

are you kidding? That is so cute.
ReplyDeleteI really would just love to find a cart. I'm thinking one of these vintage babies would make a lovely hiding place for my kitchen trash... a little burlap... and I'll be happy!
My dad has one... I'd love to steal...ehem, I mean, inherit.
It was his momma's...he uses it at the ball field to cart soccer balls and equipment. 69 years old and still coaching... can't complain. However...if he'd just turn away for a second...
...I really want one of these carts! Pat
Omg that is the cutest thing I've seen in a looooooong time! I used to have one of those granny carts. With the liner it could be used by a city girl in an apartment to take her laundry to the laundry room. And then a quick grocery shop would be more fun than ever. Maybe when I'm a granny I'll get another granny cart and buy a liner from you! Ha ha.

ReplyDeleteSoon as I get a cart (I've been looking and pricing the new ones) I'm gonna make a liner too!
ReplyDeleteGreat liner. I found my cart at a garage sale for $7 amd it a small one. I take it to the expo shows and I get funny looks but I come prepared. Today I took it on th breast cancer awareness walk. At first everyone was laughing. Then when they started giving away boxes of fruit it came in handy. One thing I do wish for was a liner my phone fell out and I thought it was gone. Thank God it was returned to lost and found. GOD BLESS the ones who turned it in. I making a liner very soon. Thanks for the tips. Love it. Beautiful picture also.
