It's been a while since I pulled away from my sewing machine to visit what I call Treasure Land (the flea market). Treasure Land offers up a seemingly endless supply of random, quirky and eclectic riches, almost always for very little money.
As I headed there last week, I couldn't help but fantasize that I'd scoop up a real treasure like the fellow recently featured on Antiques Road Show. Did you see it? He found five hand-carved bowls that are worth over a million dollars ~ yowza! (Click HERE to watch the video clip.)
I know my picks aren't rare artifacts, but I love them nonetheless!
My favorite thing about flea'ing is finding creative ways to use my goodies for something other than what they were originally intended. I'll upcycle the vintage floral planters into pincushions like I've done in the past:
And since I have two big shows coming up in October, I'm thinking the little vintage train case might be an eye-catching way to display my Retro Revival Insulated Flat Iron Travel Cases. Something like this:

You found some fun goodies! I just love finding something that is 'cool.' I know. Pretty specific, hey? LOL! I hunt down flower frogs and vintage buttons more than anything. I love them!
ReplyDeleteThe hunt---------you never know what you might find and suddenly you just have to have it. I am always looking for old pincushions but rarely ever find them-------but I like the hunt.
ReplyDeleteI don't get to do that very much but when I do, I love it! I have a little sifter just like that one you have here. Love the pin cushion idea! :D
ReplyDeleteI really like the excitement of what might be around the corner in the next booth. What great things you found...it is so much fun. Smiles...Renee
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about flea'ing is getting up extra early, grabbing my starbucks joe, arriving at the flea and planning my attack. I cruise up and down the rows checking out the goodies and on occasion visit with the sellers. Once I've seen it all I head back to the spots where my goodies are patiently waiting for me and the bargaining begins!
ReplyDeleteHello Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI would call that a successful day at hunting for treasures. I don’t have to tell you how much I love vintage suitcases.
Smiles, Paula
I like to see unique things that other people have turned up. I'm always hoping to come across something special.

I love flea market shopping. I never know what I am going to find. I love looking at old china and linens.
ReplyDeleteI just love all your treasures and I love the idea of making the planters into pincushions. I love a good hunt and usually it is way less than at an antique store.

I just found a two dollar tablecloth at a local op shop, took it home, cut it up and made it into a tote bag. It is my favourite city in Australia, check it out, I love it and can't wait to carry it around. It is the end result that gets me in, and the pleasure it gives me - well can't describe it. :)
ReplyDeleteoh - you're planters are just too cute! Also love old suitcases, you can never have too many! I just love the thrill I get when I find that special treasure. Right now - I want to find some cute recipe boxes, no special reason - just because :)
