A Lump & an Itch

*Last blog post before I draw this month's blog winner.  Scroll down for details.*

I woke up this morning with two little lumps and an itch:

(my twice-bitten leg)

The source:

How is it that something so absolutely adorable:

...can host parasites?!

Ugh!  These suckers (biters?) have survived Twyla's monthly heart and flea treatment and the stuff Mr. Wonderful sprayed on our property.  WTH?!

I'm off to bleach the linens.  And call Terminix.  Oh, and I need to find the bottle of Calamine!

Good thing she's so cute, otherwise...

Honestly, there is no otherwise.  I LOVE my little flea bag:)

Our vet says she's been hearing from losts of patients this spring, complaining about how bad the fleas are this year.  Are they bad where you live?  Any advice on how to get rid of them?

Do tell.  And when you do, you're entered to win this month's giveaway ~ this adorable "sewing machine" bird feeder:

I'll randomly draw the winner at 6:00 a.m. EST March 31st.  Good luck!

  4. Ouch--------those pesky little fleas must really bother Twyla also, poor doggie.

  5. Here in the Pacific NW, fleas haven't been too bad. But ... the ticks are rampant. And disgusting.

In happier news, that sewing machine bird feeder is the cutest thing I've ever seen!

  6. Oh My Goodness "the Source" brought a smile to my face!!!!! Knock on wood we've not had any flea issues here. We give our dog a pill. She goes beserk with the topical flea medication. The cats use the feline topical. Just be careful not to mix with "the source's" treatment, don't want to over medicate in any way. The bird feeder is adorable!

  7. Adorable photos of your dog. If your dog goes
outside there is almost no way you can avoid fleas. Have you tried Advantage?

  8. @Mary ~ I need to find out from you what pill you use!

  9. Vampire Fleas!!!!!!!! I mean really. If you start preferring snuggling with Twyla to snuggling with your Traveling Salesman and you if you try to bite him then you may need an intervention! Holy water, garlic, you know the drill. ;)

Must make aprons? Seriously? I have a craft show in two weeks and need to stop reading funny interwebs posts and get to work myself!

  11. I use Aadvantage, it did not get cold enough in my part 0f TX to kill the fleas. It's starting to to get bad a gain.

  12. @SizzleAndZoom & Missy ~ we're using Advantage. Guess it's just too warm here, like Missy's place in TX? Gonna ask the vet about a different treatment, maybe a pill.

  13. Here is a link to the flea control we use for dog Ellie. http://www.comfortis4dogs.com/

We purchase it at the vet's office.

We have tried several brands, all have worked very well for her, but she is sensitive to the application going on her skin. She literally goes berserk for about 30-45 minutes. She'll run wildly throughout the house (she's a large dog) sliding under beds, jumping across beds, it's horrible to watch. I talked with the vet and she recommended this brand, since it's a pill. We've had excellent results.

  15. Poor Twyla. She is adorable. We keep our yard sprayed. But our little does not go outside much. Good luck. Hope your bite feels better.

  17. I've always given my dogs garlic tablets and brewers yeast and the fleas don't like them...The few times they did actually get bad i used Advantage and it got rid of them. The Brewers Yeast will give her a really nice shiny coat although the garlic pills might make her smell a little. I always figured craving garlic bread was better then itching all the time so it didn't bother me...lol.

  20. I remember getting flea bites growing up. However, that is one good thing about living in the desert...there are no fleas here :-) Of course, there isn't much greenery either, and I'd love a little more of that.
Thank you so much for your prayers for my nephew. Our family is so blessed by the outpouring of love.
    Blessings,
    Marcia
